Stud of the Week: Michigan State head coach Bobby "the Brain" Williams

The recently hired MSU mentor led the Spartans to their first bowl win since the dawn of time, and dealt Spurrier his first three-game losing streak at Florida. Williams is more down to earth than a nightcrawler, more likable than Simon of "Get Smart" fame, and cooler than John Q. Shaft, if that's humanly possible.

Williams' no-holds-barred excitement over his team's bowl victory, including saying "I love ya man" to the guy interviewing him after the game, was a breath of fresh air in this era of stoicism and measured words among college coaches. Here's wishing Bobby the best in the years to come.

Buffoon of the Week: Georgia head coach Jim Donnan & the Dawg coaching staff

Just when I though I'd seen it all in the realm of horrific coaching decisions, Donnan and/or his staff call a 5-yard sideline pass on the last play of regulation with the game tied and Georgia deep in their own territory. The pass had no chance whatsoever of producing a score, that is, a Georgia score. A Purdue DB almost intercepted the inexplicable pass for what woulda been a game-ending TD. Despite themselves, Georgia went on to win in overtime.

Honorable Mention Buffoons of the Week: AP voters

The polls once again show why they're a farce as AP voters tab the nation's best team (Nebraska) #3. Needless to say, they had to give undefeated FSU the #1 nod, but ranking Virginia Tech #2 is about as reality-based as the gray matter harbored by Lou Holtz.
